JCP House

Located in a residential neighborhood in the city of São Paulo, JCP House is more akin to a countryside retreat than an urban house, with its garden full of trees, a swimming pool that extends across the lawn and its views to the blue sky.

Taking advantage of the occupation of an old house, we opted for an L-shaped layout to make the most of the area on the lot. This allowed us not only to create privacy from neighbors, but also preserve the trees that already existed in the garden. We also elevated the house from the entry level, moving it away from the street and creating the feeling of a single-story house, despite its two floors.

The main access is through the lower level, where a long corridor of plants welcomes and guides the visitor to a staircase that leads to the house.

Two large perpendicular volumes form the body of the residence, which embraces the garden protected by the treetops. The first volume is completely integrated with the external area, with large glass panels that allow for a visual exchange between the interior and exterior.

This is where the social areas are located, with a living room, dining room and gourmet area. Long eaves in wood mark the transition between the covered area and the garden.

The second volume contains the intimate areas, with the couple’s suites, the two children’s suites and the home theater.

Its facade is covered by brises, protecting the rooms from sunlight and creating privacy from the outside area, while at the same time allowing free circulation of wind.

The two volumes overlap when they meet, visually marked by a delicate overlapping of the roofs. This is caused by the difference in heights, with the ceiling height of the social area higher than that of the intimate area.

Also on this floor are the kitchen and service area.

Below the pool, on the lower floor, is the sauna, accessed by a side staircase.

Its stone-clad volume completes the material choices for the house, along with wood and zinc from the main residence.
