Located in a privileged neighborhood in São Paulo, the JLD Apartment could be mistaken for a house, if it weren’t for the exuberant views from the top of the building where it is located. Distributed in two levels and facing Villa Lobos Park, the project of this “house in the sky” aims to be an oasis in the middle of the city.
A social hall welcomes the visitor, who soon comes across a combination of materials and tones that will recur throughout the residence: stone flooring, light lining and white or wood-covered walls.
Continuing to the right, the long living room and dining room are bathed in the light that enters through large glass openings.
Design pieces and works of art carefully selected by the office mix with the clients’ collection – which includes a beautiful grand piano –, creating an interesting variety of colors, textures and expressions. A balcony marks the transition between the living room and the view, lined with careful landscaping.
On the other side, to the left of the main entrance, are located the suites and a family room, which has a private garden.
An imposing sculptural staircase, which appears to float above the ground, connects the two floors.
While the program on the lower floor resembles that of a classic apartment, the upper floor functions as an extensive leisure area. A gourmet veranda, with spa and sauna, faces the view, protected by a thin eave.
Reinforcing the feeling of being in a house, large glass panels open onto an infinity pool, embraced by a long hanging garden.
A brise-soleil panel with a concealed door gives access to a wine cellar, which also functions as a space to entertain.
A long terrace garden, with views to the city from another angle, completes the program, alongside a studio and a gym.
It is worth noting the careful renovation process of the apartment, which involved structural challenges, with necessary reinforcements in the pillars and beams. A jacuzzi was also added to the original pool, which together became part of a large reflecting pool, covering the entire length of the veranda.
