Located at the heart of São Paulo, the ELB Apartment occupies the top floor of a building and was completely transformed through a redesign of its second floor. The result is a duplex that combines the classic layout of a family apartment with the atmosphere of a house suspended above the city.

On the lower floor, we kept the traditional apartment layout: living room, dining room, kitchen, and family suites.

The original windows were discreetly concealed internally by shutters and curtains, preserving the exterior facade and bringing unity to the ensemble.

One of the project’s challenges was the staircase leading to the second floor: the ceiling, initially lower, gradually rises, revealing the spaciousness of the room. This architectural gesture creates surprise and intensifies the experience of discovery.

The completely renovated upper floor houses the more relaxed living spaces: a gourmet veranda, a family room, a game room, a children’s playroom, and a wine cellar.

A family piano serves as a focus piece on the second floor. The roof, structured with prefabricated laminated wood, is complemented by brise-soleils that simultaneously serve as pillars and light filters.

At night, the volume’s transparency makes the roof resemble a lantern, illuminating it from within. Planters surround and integrate the architecture with the landscape, creating the feeling of a house surrounded by a garden. Natural materials, such as wood on the walls and stone on the floor, reinforce the project’s timelessness.
