ZM House

Located between the lush Atlantic Forest in the background and the seafront in Itacaré, this house is organized into two blocks, which are accommodated at different levels on steep terrain. This was the way we found to take advantage of the sea view and we placed a large terrace on the upper floor.

Access is by the side of the lower volume, a heavier block in masonry and concrete, where the private part of the house is located. Right at the entrance is a 4-meter-wide staircase, inviting those arriving to climb up and explore the upstairs area.

With a wooden roof and three transparent faces, the upper floor includes the living room, terrace and kitchen (the only space enclosed by masonry) in a unique environment. The same deck that lines the floor of the living room extends to the large terrace.

The light appearance of this block is due to its very thin steel structure. The few visible beams are similar to the frames of the sliding doors and practically disappear.

Placed on the ground floor, the bedrooms also boast beautiful sea views. The overhang that protects these environments from rain and sun is the same concrete slab that forms the benching, finished in wood strips, on the upper floor terrace.

To build the project, we sought out good local suppliers and indicated outside companies when we thought it would ne necessary.
